Mama’s Dairy Free, Soy Free Turkey Shepherd’s Pie

25 ounces (weighed) semi-peeled potatoes (I partially peel the potatoes but leave some skin on.)

20 ounces Jenny O Italian Seasoned Ground Turkey

1 cup diced onions

3 TBSP earth balance butter spread (or similar)

½ Cup hemp milk (or similar)

¼ tsp. salt

¼ tsp. pepper

2 cups petite peas

1 TBSP brown rice flour (or similar)

1 cup water

Shredded cheese for toppings for those without dairy allergies



Potato Mixture

  • Boil potatoes – drain
  • Add “milk,” “butter,” salt and pepper
  • Mash & Mix – set aside

Turkey Mixture

  • Brown meat – drain off any grease
  • Sauté’ onions
  • Combine meat and onions
  • Add 1 cup water
  • Add 1 TBSP “flour”
  • Mix and let simmer on low until thickened

Microwave peas


  • Layer in a pie pan in this order
  • Meat mixture – on the bottom
  • Peas – middle
  • Potato mixture – mounded on top


  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Cook 15 minutes on highest rack
  • Broil for a couple minutes if you want the top browned a bit


  • Slice into individual servings
  • Allow each guest to add shredded cheese as needed. 

(Pardon the random formatting.  I’m still trying to figure all this stuff out.  At least the food tastes good.)
